New Post from the Deutsche Oper Berlin

This is a shortened Press Release from the DOB. The first part relates to symphonic concerts by the DOB orchestra including works by Shostakovich, who composed

“…LADY MACBETH VON MZENSK

whose resumption in the production of Ole Anders Tandberg marks a high point in the schedule of the Deutsche Oper Berlin in April.

After the premiere, Evelyn Herlitzius reaped frenetic jubilation for her portrait of the title role – and Ole Anders Tandberg’s interpretation of the material as a tragic grotesque corresponds congenially to Donald Runnicle’s interpretation of the music in its sharp and garish, but also fine and gentle passages. It is therefore all the more gratifying that in the performances of the LADY MACBETH VON MZENSK on 7,14 and 20 April the two of them can be experienced again, with Kurt Rydl as Boris.

Songs & Poets III: Faith, Love, Hope

The musical language of the composer Anno Schreier (born 1979) is a balancing act between modernity and conscious reconnection to tradition. His new dubbing of the Hamlet material was premiered in Vienna in 2016. Last year he composed the music for the stage version of Michel Houellebecq’s “Submission”. For Lieder & Dichter he set five texts by Nora Bossong (born 1982) to music for Lieder & Dichter, which has caused a stir in recent years as both prose author and poet, most recently with her latest book, the reportage “Rotlicht” (Hanser Verlag 2017). The premiere of the Bossong songs is contrasted with two very different cycles of the late Brahms: the “Gypsy Songs” and the “Four Serious Songs”, interpreted by Nicole Haslett, Annika Schlicht, Clemens Bieber and Stephen Bronk, accompanied by John Parr.

Nora Bossong will read the texts soundtracked by Schreier and will respond to the Brahms cycles with his own poems.

Classical art song and modern poetry: The series of events in collaboration with the Haus für Poesie combines song recital and poetry reading. On each of the four evenings in the foyer of the Deutsche Oper, a poet will present his own works that relate to the programme’s songs.
