How long are singers affected by Covid? Not the disease itself, but the constraints-vocal, sartorial and professional-under which everyone labored during the Pandemic. Singers, especially young inexperienced ones, got all too used to small rooms and short, often informal sessions. ZAV agents commented that many singers were acclimated to small studios and not used to filling up large spaced, and now I hear that in addition many young singers are poorly prepared and sloppily dressed. Coachings and rehearsals, however informal, are always professional appearances. Go to the beach, wear shorts and floppies by all means, but not for professional situations! Informal is fine, even called for, but it’s ‘put together’ informal. Think of it as a costume: you want to present yourself nicely. As a performer what kind of picture are you making? Know ALL your music as well as possible. I suppose that during the Pandemic sessions were shorter and performances rare, but that’s over. Sessions are longer and require more concentration and preparation. If you want to make a career be ready to kick A, and look good doing it!
