On Saturday and Sunday, 15 and 16 June, the STAATSOPER FOR ALL weekends, one of the highlights of the Berlin Cultural Summer, will take place for the 13th time thanks to BMW Berlin. The opening will be on Saturday at 3 pm with the broadcast of Richard Wagner’s TRISTAN UND ISOLDE under the stage direction of Dmitri Tcherniakov and under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim, live from the Opera House to Bebelplatz. The title roles are sung by Andreas Schager and Anja Kampe, and René Pape can be experienced as the king of the brand. On Sunday, 16 June, the Staatskapelle Berlin will play a symphony concert under the open sky at 1 pm on Bebelplatz, also conducted by Daniel Barenboim. The concert program includes Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Violin Concerto in E minor op. 64 with Jiyoon Lee as soloist and Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D major op. 73. Admission is free.

Jiyoon Lee has been awarded several prizes, including first prize at the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition in Odense, Denmark (2016), first prize at the Windsor International String Competition (2015) and first prize at the David Oistrakh Violin Competition in Moscow (2013). Matthias Schulz, Director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden: “It is my special concern to make opera as accessible as possible. STATE OPERA FOR ALL has been doing this in a wonderful way for thirteen years! On the Bebelplatz, in the heart of the historic centre of Berlin, Berliners, tourists, families, young and old music lovers and curious people mix in a relaxed summer picnic atmosphere. Whether at the opera broadcast or at the annual open-air concert of the Staatskapelle Berlin: it is always fantastic to experience the concentration with which the tens of thousands of visitors listen and get involved with the music. I hope: From there it will be just a small step into the Staatsoper Unter den Linden”.
“For more than a decade, the STATE OPERA FOR ALL has been the important foundation of the long-standing partnership between BMW and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Since this year we are happy to be the main global partner of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and to deepen the existing cooperation. I wish all Berliners and visitors to the capital a wonderful summer weekend in the heart of Berlin with musical delights in the open air,” says Hans-Reiner Schröder, Director of BMW Berlin.
“Mendelssohn’s violin concerto is one of the most beloved works among the violin repertoire, and it is a great honor to play with the orchestra that Mendelssohn once conducted himself. I am extremely thrilled to be part of this special concert and I am very much looking forward to meeting everyone on Bebelplatz!”, Jiyoon Lee.
The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller, has taken over the patronage of STAATSOPER FÜR ALL.
Together with the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, BMW Berlin launched the open-air event series STAATSOPER FÜR ALL in the heart of Berlin in 2007. Since then, the series has attracted more than half a million visitors and is one of the city’s most atmospheric and successful cultural events.
For more than a decade now, STATE OPERA FOR ALL has been the important foundation of the long-standing partnership between BMW and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Since the 2018/2019 season, the BMW Group has supported the Staatsoper Unter den Linden as its official and global main partner and is further expanding its joint cooperation. The main focus here is on creating a change of perspective with the possibilities of digitisation and thus opening up the opera house to new target groups. Further details will be announced at a press conference (invitation will follow).
