Spring Forward but Not Yet in Germany

Daylight Savings Time begins in the US on March 8, but not until March 28 in Germany and Europe. They call it ‘Sommerzeit’ – Summertime) and for those 20 days there will be a FIVE HOUR time difference between Germany and the US East Coast – the sun rises first here -, d.h.(German for ‘that is’, literally ‘das heisst’) 2 o’clock (14 Uhr as they say here) will be 9 am EDT, not 8am. It’s confusing, even for old hands like yours truly. When the time changes here some performers even come late to performances or their makeup or costume appointments. It’s less frequent now that most clocks ar automatic but still an issue, so be aware!
