Summertime – und das Leben ist herrlich aber einen Job zu finden ist schwieriger!

From what I hear, at least from ZAV, things are pretty well sewn up for next season-EXCEPT for real Lyric Tenors-Tamino, Ferrando, operetta and ‘classic’ musical. They won’t say where, but if you have a pretty voice and want to perform a wide range of repertoire you should send them your materials. Otherwise they say things are pretty bleak. Theaters have to save money and most spots, be they Guest engagements or Fest contracts, are already filled. This isn’t to say you shouldn’t come here. See if the life suits you and whether you can learn the language. They are looking for young emerging singers, but it’s not an easy road and you have to be ready to live here. Summer is a good time to visit – the days are very long and the nights coool, so do bring a light jacket. It’s been a rainy Spring so be prepared for that as well. Enjoy a country where classical music is part of everyday life, LEARN TO SPEAK THE LANGUAGE, and see if it fits you and you fit it!
