If you want an audition this Fall/Winter with ZAV, the state run employment agency for singers, NOW is the time to send your request. If you’re not going to be here about two months or more and if you’re really not ready to work in a theater singing roles and rehearsing don’t waste their time or yours..You have to speak some German and these days it is disqualifying to sing American accented German, particularly because theaters do more operetta and musicals in German. You have to remember that their is a critical difference between correct diction and expressively singing in their language. I am also told that ZAV won’t hear anybody over 40. It’s not right but it seems to be so.
Most people who end up here make at least two trips before they take the plunge. You’ll do better to come over here to get your feet wet and learn to speak the language. See if you really want to live here and what you’ll be able to do to rustle up some money until you find your way into the paid musical life here. Remember too, that agents never forget the bad auditions and rarely give a singer a second chance after that.
